Evaluation - Tom and Jerry

I think that my Tom and Jerry cartoon which I dubbed went really well. Some of the sounds I used were recorded using the microphone on my laptop and also using a Sony voice recorder and some of the sounds were taken off the internet. The website I used to get the sounds from was http://www.freesound.org/ and also http://soundfxnow.com/. Both of theses websites were free and had all the sounds I wanted to download. Before dubbing the clip I watched it over and over so I knew what sounds I wanted to use and where I could put them. After doing this I created a mindmap of the types of sounds I could use. I got the majority of the sounds off the internet and the website I used most was http://www.freesound.org/ and for the majority of the recording I used my laptop mic. I used my laptop mic because I did them at home because I was ill and couldn't make the lesson. If I could do anything different I would record more of the sounds myself as it was hard to find some of the sounds online.

The location for this scene is in a space ship and we can see that this is an expensive ship because of all the equipment in space ship. We can see that the owner of the ship is The Master as he is dressed up in the suit and all smart whereas the other characters are in servant costumes and maid costumes. The Master is also on the higher part of the ship to show that he is the dominate character.

Sound

Really slow where the master is talking about killing mather and the humans

Kicks in and gets beaty when mather tells the mast what she has done and her plan

Gets even more beaty when the doctor gets big again

When The Master is speaking and talking about killing Martha and the world ending it is really slow and dark. This shows that he is a dark character and makes the audience think something bad is about to happen.  The music then gets more upbeat when Martha tells The Master what her plan was and when The Doctor becomes bigger again.

During this scene the camera is always set up to look up to The Master so that it shows he is the dominant character at this point of the scene. The camera is also set up to look down on Martha to show that she is the weaker character in the scene. It also has a lot of close ups on The Master this also shows that he is the dominate character.

News Sketch

For this assignment we have to film a Two Ronnie style news sketch. We have to do this in three different locations. One has to be indoors but a noisy surroundings, for this we will use the men's toilets in the media block. The other location has to be indoors but with a quiet surrounding, for this location we will film in an empty class room. The third location has to be outside, we will film this part in Melvyn's car.

For this assignment I will be working with Aaron, Melvyn and Adam. I think that we will work well together as we have worked with one another before so we know what to expect from each other and also we know we can work well together.

The equipment that we will use for footage Canon 550D mounted to a tripod so we can get the best picture possible. For the audio we will use a standard shotgun mic.

Evaluation

For this assignment we had to go out and film a "Two Ronnie" news sketch in three different locations. One location had to be noisy/busy indoors, another had to be a quiet location indoors, and the last one had to be outside. For the noisy/busy indoor location we decide to go film in the toilets in the college as we thought this would be noisy as there is the hand dryers and the chains, and also the people coming in who need to use the toilet. For the outdoor location we decided to go film in Melvyn's car. Finally in the quiet indoor location we decided to find an empty room in the college and film in there.

We did experience some problems in some of the locations. In the toilets we experienced some sound problems, as when we captured our footage the audio was really quiet and we couldn't hear it. Also we experienced some problems with the outside location, as when we captured the footage we noticed that the tripod and camera's shadow was in shot. The class room was fine and we didn't experience any problems in there.

We decided to go re-film and try and sort out the problems that we had. For the toilet scene we made sure we double checked the sound levels so that it wouldn't come out quiet again. When we went to re-film the car scene we parked in a different spot so away from the sun so that we wouldn't get the camera and tripod's shadow in shot. We didn't have to re-film the class room scene as we didn't have any problems with this location.

As a group I believe that we work really well together and we didn't have many problems with any members of the group.

After doing this assignment I have learnt a couple of things. One is to always double check the sound levels so that it wont be to quiet or to loud. I have also learnt to always check the shot and look out for unwanted things being in the shot.

New Footage

After watching back our re-filmed footage, we think that it was successfully and that we sorted out the problems which we had the first time. The first time we filmed we had some sound problems in the toilet scene. Also we had problems with the car scene as the camera and tripod shadow was in shot. We went and re-filmed and resolved these problems by repositioning the camera on the car scene and made sure the sound was okay in the toilets before filming.

Equipment for re-shoot

As a group we decide we are going to re-film the shots as we think the sound needs improving and in the shots you see some of the equipment.

We will use clip mics this time to try and get better sound from the locations. Also we will
We will stick with using the canon for the camera as we get the best picture from it. We will reposition the camera as well so we wont get the shadow in shot.
